PMS in quality management

With the advent of the ISM code more than 30 years ago the whole shipping industry was systematically introduced to the Deming’s cycle of safety, quality and environmental management. This has evolved over so many years.

The Deming Cycle, or PDCA Cycle, is a continuous quality improvement model consisting of a logical sequence of four repetitive steps for continuous improvement and learning: Plan, Do, Check and Act.

All PMS systems which are generally available today do strongly contribute to this process in different ways. The PMS system is no longer ‘just’ a system to identify work to be done and report what was done.

At PiscesER1 we have been involved with installing, migrating, implementing and supporting the PMS systems for various companies, and we have been able to pull out just how any PMS will contribute strongly to the PDCA cycle leading to improved management and optimised vessel operations.
